If it takes a village to help keep a blog fresh, engaging and informative then I consider myself to be the village idiot, the person who has no science background and so begins every conversation with “what does that mean?” It’s really quite useful because if I don’t understand something then there’s a good chance other people without a strong science background won’t. Think of it this way, I get to ask the dumb questions so you don’t have to. My background is actually a mix of journalism, media relations and sports. Heading a soccer ball too many times in my youth could explain some of my more recent music and fashion choices.

Todd Dubnicoff

Todd Dubnicoff

Todd Dubnicoff is a left-handed Canadian who grew up in Texas and got married in a San Francisco laundromat. He credits astronomer Carl Sagan – the mentor inside his family’s television screen – for sparking a fascination in science and inspiring a PhD in molecular biology.  After several years in the biotech industry, Todd returned to his science TV roots by becoming a producer of stem cell videos. Although a picture paints a thousand words and video 30,000 per second, Todd has learned those words must tell a compelling story. Contributing regularly to the Stem Cellar blog helps improve his storytelling chops. And he gets to learn about exciting stem cell research discoveries along the way. How cool is that?

Karen Ring

Karen Ring

Karen Ring grew up with big dreams of saving the world with science! After spending eight years behind the bench doing research as a grad student and postdoc, she concluded that her best chance at saving the world  was to leverage her science communication skills and get the word out to the masses. When not thinking about how awesome stem cells are, Karen likes to eat amazing food, run outside, and climb tall walls. Her friends invite her to parties mainly to make conversational references to Game of Thrones and Zombies.
