About the blog

Thank you for checking out The Microbial Menagerie! The Microbial Menagerie began one day as I pondered about my niche in the microbiology research community. As a graduate student and a postdoctoral researcher, it is easy to get caught up in the intricacies of your own research without, diving deep into one topic, while sacrificing breadth in the general field. As I transition from graduate studies to seeking a postdoctoral position, I realized there were so many areas of microbiology I was interested in but did not know much about at the time. I created this blog in order to both educate myself in a variety of microbiology topics and bring attention to how microbiology affect our lives in ways we may not have thought about before. Please feel free to comment, ask questions, or request topics for upcoming posts.

About Jennifer

I am a science editor and freelance science writer. I have completed a Ph.D. in microbiology and studied antimicrobial resistance as a postdoctoral fellow. While not thinking about science, I enjoy reading a good book, photographing nature and cities, finding my zen in yoga and running, and playing clarinet.

I have a long standing interest in science communication and participate in many activities to help bring understandable science to the public. I blog for the American Society for Microbiology Microbial Sciences blog and am a founding member of Tiny Science Letters, a weekly newsletter that brings science stories from scientists to curious non-scientists.
