About

I’m a PhD Candidate in Cognitive Science at UC San Diego. I love metaphor, psychology, and science communication.

Updates: Exciting things on the horizon

I’ll defend my doctoral dissertation this November. It includes research on space and time in our languages, bodies, and minds.

Recent

Research Methods in Cognitive Science: This summer I taught my first course as Instructor of Record. Our class explored topics like the scientific process, experiment design, and ethics in science with the students. You can find more on our class site (including blog posts written by the students).

CogSci 2017: The annual Cognitive Science Society meeting took place from July 26-29 in London. I presented two posters with recent research, and oversaw a new event that I’ve organized as the society’s graduate student representative — Professional Development Chats, for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to network and discuss specific professional development topics with professionals who are farther along in their careers.

ComSciCon 2017: I worked as the Program Organizing Committee chair for this year’s conference, held in June in Cambridge, MA. ComSciCon is a workshop organized by grad students for graduate students to foster science communication leadership. I’m proud of the program our team put together.

In the spring, I co-taught a Freshman Seminar at UCSD on Cognitive Science Blogging. We explored strategies for science communication, and students focused on iterating and honing their own blog posts. Check them out on our class blog.
