As a lover of science and a die hard believer in effective communication, I’ve researched aquatic ecology and science communication in water quality issues in the Midwest. Specifically, my past research projects have included understanding  how the products we use everyday (medication, hand soap, etc.) can affect algae, how this topic can be used as a platform to tease out what types of communication are most effective at engaging people, and how nutrient concentrations influence ecosystem dynamics in streams. My overall research interests include the ways humans affect the natural environment, especially in aquatic systems, as well as how to effectively communicate science to the public.

I currently work to characterize and understand drinking water sources in Indiana through public engagement, technical review, and sampling programs.

On the science communication side, some of my key projects include starting a newspaper column in my campus paper on sustainability, serving as Editor-in-Chief of of Sustainability Now, analyzing five years of data to recommend next steps for The Writing Center at my university, and blogging about interesting and strange things in our natural world.

I love hiking, being outside, and writing, about pretty much everything. Check out my portfolio for more examples of my work.
