Welcome to braiNY and the Greater NYC Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience’s website. The Chapter’s goal is to facilitate partnerships with local institutions and organizations and to produce or co-ordinate city-wide events like Brain Awareness Week.

BraiNY Mission Statement:

BraiNY’s mission is to make brain science accessible to the broader community and promote mentorship and career development for young neuroscientists, mirroring the parent Society for Neuroscience’s goal. Through a collective effort as (neuro)scientists, we will engage with communities, both local and global, with the aim to raise awareness of brain science; to provide access to information about how the brain functions, as well as how to take care of one’s own brain and mental health; and to create opportunities to engage with neuroscience research. We believe that by providing a diverse set of perspectives of what it means to be a neuroscientist, our work will encourage individuals of all backgrounds to engage in science from an early age.

BraiNY Values Statement:

We are committed to fostering an environment in all educational and outreach activities that reflects the core values of promoting inclusion, equity, and representation in science. Foundational to these values is the acknowledgement of the structural inequalities that persist both in science and the broader world. We make these values actionable by working to dismantle barriers that otherwise block participation and access to scientific careers, scientific discovery, and access to benefits thereof.
